WORK SONG REVIEW
Danielle Allen accomplished something that every author wants to accomplish in their career; she created characters that we can care about, characters that we root for, and a few that we don’t cheer for. Every character in this novel had a different voice that was so clear you could picture them easily in your mind.
Tatiana and Wes captured me so early in the book I was actually smiling at their emails as if I was the one receiving them. What starts off as a safe work friendly email buddy-ship somehow finds its way to a true friendship and then some. Complications arise when Wes has to relocate to Tatiana’s office building and her safe 3000 miles away friend becomes an incredibly handsome face to face man she’s very attracted to.
How can they make a relationship work in light of the company’s no fraternization policy? Can Tatiana have the great career she’s worked so hard for and the man of her dreams?
The novel is written in a no nonsense everyday tone that a wide variety of readers can relate to. Tatiana shines as an independent woman that is willing to work hard for her dream. She has an amazing self confidence that no one can dull, no matter what society tells her. She has a curvy figure and isn’t afraid to embrace it. She is comfortable in her own skin and isn’t afraid of the world. She carries herself with a confidence that is refreshing in a romance novel. As a curvy female writer myself I instantly felt like a kindred spirit with Tatiana. I found myself hearing Mary J Blige singing “Just Fine” in my head every time Tatiana was speaking.
When I had completed the book I felt like it was a movie I had just watched and I wanted to start over and watch again. There were parts where I was literally grinning ear to ear, and some parts where I was on the edge of my seat with worry. At one point while I was reading during my lunch break at my day job I almost clocked in late because I had reached the climax of the story and let me tell you, there is a bombshell.
If you’re looking for a romantic and sometimes sensual read with a strong and intelligent female main character, look no further; you’ll love this novel.
This was my first Danielle Allen book and it will definitely not be my last. I look forward to meeting more characters like Tatiana and Wes.
